Moyra’s surrealist self portraits invite the viewer into the intimate landscape of her inner world. Using cell phone photos as references, her work interrogates the contrast between idolized depictions of Self to be consumed online and the unfiltered, personal relationship to one’s own body. Moyra often uses her own skin as a paintbrush, removing the space between object and representation. Having worked as a model, her artistic practices reclaims her appearance, used as a vessel to sell products, into a foundation for sincere self-expression. Her paintings celebrate the vulnerability and power in rewriting what is in the mirror.
